The Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr Kennedy Chidozie Ibeh, and the Honourable members have called on Imolites to take advantage of the on-going Voters” Registration Exercise to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Card (P.V.C). The lawmakers noted that voters card is their power to choose the right candidate during the election.
This was sequel to a Motion Of Urgent Public Importance moved by Hon Chief Eddy Obinna, member representing Aboh Mbaise State Constituency.
Speaking on the motion, which was seconded by Hon. Blyden Amajirionwu, member representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency, the Chief Sponsor of the motion, Hon. Obinna, explained the need for Imolites to take advantage of the registration exercise and obtain their PVCs.
He said Imolites should take their destiny in their own hands by getting their PVCs which empowers them to vote a candidate of their choice.
He therefore prayed that the House should urge the Governor, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma, to direct all political appointees to go to their communities to educate their people on the need to obtain voters card.
Also, He prayed that the Rt. Hon. Speaker should direct the House Members to take time off and visit their constituencies to educate their constituents on the need to get their PVCs.. The Head Of Service was also urged to do same on the Civil Servants.
During a robust debate, the member representing Oru East, State Constituency, Hon Chigozie Nwaneri, while making case for civil servants to obtain their PVCs, harped on the need for Imo people to arm themselves with the voting power..
Also, .member representing Njaba, Rt. Hon. Uju Onwudiwe and her Isiala Mbano State Constituency counterpart, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins all aired their views on the need to tell Imo people to obtain their Voters Card.
Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins opined that Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) should join the Catholics and Anglicans in sensitizing their members to get their PVCs..
The Speaker, having observed the commendable role that His Excellency, Sen Hope Uzodimma and the security agencies are playing to ensure peace and security in Imo, called for a voice vote to all the prayers of the Chief Sponsor, and the motion passed through.
Similarly, The House of Assembly Bill No 9, A bill for a Law to repeal the Laws Authentication Law No.9 of 1980 and Enact a Law to make provision for the Authentication and Recording of Laws Passed by the Imo State House of Assembly and other related matter, which was committed to Committee of the Whole, read the third time and passed. The bill was sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Member representing Nwangele- State Constituency. The Clerk was ordered to produce clean copies, for the Governor’s assent.
A minute silence was observed by the honourable members in honour of Mr. Uchenna Onyemaechi Akalonu, the younger brother to the Majority Leader, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, who died recently….
